About
Meet Karlie Libraro, M.S., CCC-SLP
I'm a licensed speech-language pathologist, and I've spent more than ten years in school-based, outpatient and private practice settings in Virginia and Illinois. Now I help parents and caregivers make sense of the special education process and take part in IEP and 504 meetings with confidence.
Why I started Access Educational Advocacy
After years on the school side of the IEP table, one thing stayed with me. I kept meeting caregivers who cared deeply about their child's education and still felt lost, unheard or overwhelmed by a system that was never designed to be easy to follow. Most of them were asking the right questions. The trouble was the disconnect between families and school districts, which is real and runs deep. I started Access Educational Advocacy to help close that gap.
I know how schools think, how IEP teams operate, and what the law requires of them. I also know the medical and clinical side: what therapists see in outpatient settings, what schools are required to provide, and why those two worlds so rarely speak the same language. Access Educational Advocacy is part of my speech therapy practice, KL Therapy Services, PLLC.
My goal is to get everyone working from the same information. I don't go into meetings to fight or escalate. I want every family to walk in informed and confident, ready to advocate for their child, because every student deserves access to their education and every caregiver deserves to understand how to get it for them.
Access Educational Advocacy is a woman-owned small business. I'm based in Virginia and meet families in person in Central Virginia. I also serve families virtually across the country, with specialized expertise in Virginia and Illinois special education process and regulations.
I'm not an attorney, and I don't give legal advice. If things are heading toward due process or litigation, that's the time to talk to a special education attorney. You can read more about how an advocate and an attorney differ.
